Fake Frequently Asked Questions
What is a micro-roasted coffee?
It's a recently invented term to talk about coffee roasters who buy specialty green coffee and roast in very small quantities. Usually selling to friends, family, and coffee enthusiasts. People like you hopefully.
How does this work when I order coffee?
Although Beanboy Quality Systems has mega-conglomerate aspirations, it is currently a one to two person operation to produce and ship Beanboy Coffees. So right now ordering is opened and able to placed throughout the week or until it sells out, and then roasted by Sunday. We then package up all the orders and send them out by the following Monday. Additional roasting may be added depending upon interest.
How much coffee should I order?
Part of that depends on how much coffee you drink. But as of now, the most cost effective is ordering up to four bags for a flat shipping fee of $5. After four we need to start another box. Sealed coffee beans should stay fresh for many months. Obviously shipping becomes more cost effective in multiples of four. If larger quantities become of interest or you need a special order, shoot us a note.
Do you sell pre-ground coffee?
Sorry, at the moment we only sell whole bean coffee. Unfortunately when coffee is pre-ground it increases surface area and allows too much oxygen in contact with the beans to the detriment of its flavor. We would recommend picking up a hand or electric burr grinder and grinding right before brewing each batch of coffee. It will change everything for the better and is more important than your coffee maker.
I can get a tub of coffee at Costco for way less! Why so pricey?
A few factors are at play. Specialty grade coffee is generally priced higher due to being produced in more limited quantities and the high labor cost of producing them. Many of these coffees are hand picked, bean by bean, by farmers and laborers compared to the large agro-farming machine operations. But as higher quality coffee becomes more demanded, the more these farmers can get for their product. And that's great because they don't make enough as it is. Tariffs don't help either, but you knew that right?
It's fresh roasted but then shipping says up to 5 days!?
One big misconception of coffee is that it's best the moment its roasted. Coffee actually needs to rest a little, especially the light to medium style of Beanboy Coffee. It's sort of like steak, but annoyingly longer. What happens is CO2 continues to leave the roasted coffee for at least 7 days. It's a reason why in pour overs you let the coffee 'Bloom' or in espresso you see a light crema on top of your shot, that's trapped gasses releasing. So in our experience letting the coffee rest a good few days before brewing will get you the best flavors. If you're in a pinch though, there is nothing wrong with brewing it up sooner.
Woah, what's up with the nerd facts bro? I think coffee snobs are annoying. Do you think you're better than us?!
No and it's against BQS corporate policy to openly belittle unlearn-ed coffee drinkers. The fact is you don't start tasting "berries, nougat, rose tips" until you drink some good quality coffee. Once you go back to your regular mass produced stuff you'll wonder how you ever did it in the first place.
'Coffee is coffee' just isn't true. Think of it like wine. Yeah a grape is a grape. But Welches isn't a Napa Cabernet.
You just said above you're one person, but you keep saying "We".
It's a Royal We, and makes us at BQS sound much bigger than I...err, we are.
